Storage and egress costs are included in your bill from Ascend. You pay no additional costs on top of
these to your cloud provider.

Ascend’s pricing model is based on the concept of DFU usage, which is entirely elastic to meet Dataflow
processing needs — you pay only for capacity when it is processing data. There is no need to provision,
reserve, or manage capacity, or to manually scale up & down your infrastructure.

What is a Data Service?

A Data Service is a collection of one or more Dataflows within a shared security model that enables you to ingest, process, and output data from anywhere to anywhere. You pay for Data Services using Dataflow Units.

What is a Dataflow Unit?

A Dataflow Unit (DFU) is Ascend’s unit of processing capacity. DFUs are priced per Edition (see above) and billed on a per-second usage as a slice of processing resources. Various Dataflow tasks (e.g. ingesting, transforming, writing data, etc.) within a Data Service each consume DFUs for some period of time.

EXAMPLE

The Data Service (graph below) has 3 Dataflows that each consume some number of DFUs over a 24 hour period (8AM – 8AM). Using the Enterprise Edition, each DFU will cost $4 per hour. The total number of DFUs consumed for the Data Service is the combined usage of all 3 Dataflows rolled up per hour.

The total cost of the entire Data Service below is $536 (134 DFUs x $4 per DFU/hr) for this 24 hour period of time. The final cost reflects only what was actually used, elegantly and efficiently scaling to handle spikes.

A compelling benefit of Ascend’s deduplication of work and datasets shared between other Dataflows means that your final total cost could actually end up being much less.

The cost of the Ascend service is determined by actual usage which varies based on your individual application. Most Ascend customers gain experience using Ascend with Dataflows that reflect their actual analytics workloads and CI/CD workflows.
